After the hikes

On Saturday as soon as we got home from the hikes we went straight to the pool.  Abigale is learning how to swim all on her own and she is so proud of herself as well as we are proud of her!  The cool water felt really nice after some good hikes!  We were able to meet up with some good friends kick back and relax!

Moon Falls

Saturday May 30th we also did Moon Falls!  Since we already drove in to get to Spirit we said we would do Moon as well.  It was 1.2 miles and even more beautiful than Spirit fall!  The girls also got to see two wild mice and Natalie informed me that they are not as nice as the pet mice in her class room.   I think that we could of spent all afternoon exploring all around the Falls but since Brian had such a big training day we hiked there took the pictures and called it good!  We said that was the only time we would drive out there but it was so pretty I think we might have to go back someday and do some exploring!

Spirit Falls

On May 30th  Brian started the morning off with a BANG!  He is doing his training for his half Iron Man so he woke up bright and early to swim 1.2 miles, bike 58 miles and run 5!  Deana helped Jan by digging up a trailer full of old sod... I decided that my grass was just fine and if there were a few different types of grass... well God made it so I should enjoy it!  Natalie and Abigale enjoyed a fun morning playing with the Stanley boys across the street riding bikes, driving the hummers, and jumping on the trampoline!  After Brian got home iced his knee the Schnoors were off!  We changed our minds at the last minute and decided to hike Spirit Falls and Moon Falls today.  Thought that it would be closer to home!  After driving down 58 we got to our turn off and our book with directions said to stay right at the first Y.  We came to the first Y and I said that we should take it (not a good idea) Brian however said he did not think that it was a good idea but took it for me.  About 20 minutes later we decided to turn around!  We went back and about 2 blocks later came another Y!  Natalie told us that this was the capital Y and the other y was the little y.  Well a long drive later we finally arrived at Spirit Falls.  It was only .8 mile so not bad at all and not to steep either but boy was it worth it the falls were very beautiful!

Woodpecker Trail

On Memorial Day 2009 we took the girls to Corvallis to do their first triathlon!  They did awesome I am so proud of both of them!  Since we were in the area we decided to try and get a hike out of the area marked off of our list!  It was just under one and half mile and no real big hills but since the girls had just swam, biked and ran we decided it was a perfect fit for the day!  It was really pretty lots of quail, butterflies, big bumble bees, and tons of poison oak!  Luckily both girls stayed on the trail and no poison oak was touched!

Goodman Creek

That same day that we hiked the Butte we decided to go do one more hike for the day after lunch!  We drove up 58 and pulled off to a designated parking area and started on our journey.  We read in the book that there were waterfalls so the girls were on a mission!  It was a very good hike!  Brian wants to go back on his mountain bike.  Two miles in to the hike we found our waterfalls, not as big as we thought that they would be but they were very beautiful and the girls loved seeing them!  There was also a little swimming hole there so next time we will come prepared for that!

Spencers Butte

We hike the Butte on May 24th, 2009 Sunday morning.  The girls really enjoyed the hike.  It was their first time hiking the butte all on their own.  Once we got to the top Natalie fell in Love with rock climbing!  She said we have to do this hike again!  After we hiked the Butte we decided to go to REI to get a few things one being a map of some sorts for hikes in Lane County.  We did not find just a map but what I did find was a book of 100 hikes for kids rating the hikes from easy to challenging.  So it was there that we found a  new adventure!  We are going to try and do all 100 hikes before Natalie goes to college in 10 years!

Mount Pisgah

We have hike Mount Pisgah many times before but this is our official 100 hike adventure kick off!  We hiked the mountain with the Swangards on May 23, 2009.  It was a beautiful day and a great hike as usual.   It was just to bad that once we got to the top the clouds had not burned off enough to see the South Sister... A hike Brian would like for us to do at the end of this summer.
